I`m Working On It.........

Well, I can`t take any pictures at the moment so here`s my attempt at cottage style. Still lots of things I`d love to do but I`m happy with having painted the cupboards after 18 years of having them meduim brown. It was a bit scary painting over good pine and it took me 3 years of thinking about it. If you look closely you can see that they weren`t exactly built straight. I try to just think of it as part of their charm. I love peonies and as they were about to go on their last journey I picked loads and put them all along the tops of the cupboards. They surprisingly kept most of their form and colour.

Thanks for all the lovely comments you left on my website. I love your cottagey look, I actually live in a cottage, the walls between two of my rooms are 18inches thick. I have just hung some paeonies up in my barn to try to dry them, don't know if it will work or not, also I am trying to get up the courage to paint an old pine chest of drawers, cream. The thing is about twenty years ago I stripped it all down to pine, and now I want it cream to match the kitchen dresser I had made when I moved here.

Which Phil Rickman book to you like best? I like the Merrily[?] Watkins books, but I sometimes wish he would write another book without her as the lead character. Have you read Charles de Lint? I love his books as much as, maybe even slightly more than Phil's. Charles is from Canada. Love xx

Thanks so much Daisy. You are so lucky to be living in a real English cottage. I envy you. Be brave and paint away :)
I also like the Merrily Watkins series the best. He`s working right now on another. I`m not familiar with Charles de Lint, but I`m going to look him up and see what he`s about right now and possibly add him to my growing wish list.

I know what you mean about painting over wood. I absolutely love the look but I am afraid too. Yours looks lovely and you did the right thing!!

It looks like you are doing a great job on the cottage style. I can imagine that when the cupboards were brown it was so much darker in the kitchen. They look so nice now.

Cute! I'm about to paint my kitchen cabinets white. Right now they're dark brown and I hate them, but I've been afraid to paint them. But a friend painted hers and they look so fabulous I've decided to do mine! Did you sand them before painting? My friend told me to sand them, prime them, then paint. Yikes!
