Ew, My Floor!

The ripping up of carpet and laying down of flooring has begun. That`s plywood you see underneath patched up to make it even. Part of the rug in the hall has been cut away, rolled up,tied and sent out to the garbage. To the right is the new floor. We`re laying it from the kitchen out to match up. A little more complicated, rather than starting at the front door like we were going to originally. More cutting small strips in this narrow area until we start the rest of the hall and attached front room. That should go a bit easier. This is going to be a slow process, done in bits and pieces when the time is available and although it`s much nicer to show a before and after picture...there`s no after picture for awhile yet. Bit by bit makes it easier to live in though. Not all bare and grubby at once. Elvis isn`t really sure what to think....

If I could guess, it would be " You are having some rug still, aren`t you Mum? Please."
And yes Elvis. The throw rugs are staying, so you`ll still have some nice soft spots to lie. That is when you`re not on the bed or your couch, you dear hairy monster.

Teddy looks as if he agrees. He couldn`t bare not having soft spots to lie. Ew...no.

Isobell is posing lately for some odd reason. She used to hate the camera. She wants to tell you about the new bit of green carpet under the animal dishes. I call it the slop carpet. It`s replacing another slop carpet. The water dish is the furthest back, so that when Elvis drinks and slops, it lands on the carpet instead of the floor, well most of it. Isn`t that plastic over the antique tablecloth glamorous? haha My couch isn`t covered in plastic. Honest. But there`s a big hairy back that rubs along there when he`s eating. Better the plastic than my nice cloth. Pets. Gotta love em to put up with the little extras that come along with them. But to me they`re worth it. I`ve grown up with animals and I couldn`t do without them. Luckily hubby is an animal lover. Hmmmmm, I might eventually end up staining those chairs and kitchen table. Or making those slip cover things. That would be less work. Even less would be to just paint them brown but I don`t think I`d like the end results of that.

I`ve been finding reading other`s blogs so interesting that I`m not paying much attention to mine lately. I think because I don`t have anything nice to show at the moment. So much to do and all you get is a picture of an ugly floor LOL So it`s been cyber travelling, reading a good book and watching decorating shows on BBC Canada and work of course and slow fixing up. Next I`ll have to decide which is more important to do after the floor, recovering the couch and chairs or buying a hall runner. One will have to wait until next fall most likely. Should I toss a coin? If I get the runner, the hall will be finished and we won`t hear Elvis`s toenails LOL. But if I get the fabric, the sitting area will be so much nicer.
Decisions, decisions.....
Going to an afternoon get-together tomorrow with some old girlfriends. A couple of them I haven`t seen for I bet... 25 years. Looking forward to it.
Have a great weekend everyone. And if you`ve got the mess of snow that we have here, be safe and may an angel be watching over you on those roads.

I'm familiar with the decorative water feature surrounding water bowls:):) I'm glad Elvis will still have his comfy throw rugs when the floor is done. Hope you enjoy your get-together, what fun to meet people after such a long time. Will hopefully get a couple of mags in the post to you next week, life has beenrather hectic since New Year and I just haven't got round to it. Big hug to Elvis and feline greetings to Isabell and Teddy.

Hi ! Kim here.

I so admire your ambition with redecorating. I think I've told you that I need to strip wallpaper AND pull up a nasty carpet in the lounge. Ew. I keep thinking about it but not DOING it.

Do you have a secret for just getting down to business and doing it? Should I just walk out into that diningroom right now and rip off a big chunck of wallpaper?

And my garden is a whole other story...

Have a great weekend as well Tea! Enjoy your time with your family and friends.

The photos and stories you post about your little animal housemates are always so much fun.

Elvis looks like he needs a hug.

Ahhhh Tea, you are so energetic I feel like a slug by comparison!

I'd vote for the recovering the furniture and keeping Elvis's toenails clipped!

The floor looks nice and the fur kids look concerned. I'm sure they appreciate knowing they will get to keep the comfy spots to relax on!

Tea Hi!,
I cannot see how I can email you private so I will have to ask you here. hope this will be ok!

Let me tell you how this started.

while I was sitting in the sand on the warm beach I was thinking of all my blogger friends in the cold up north and decided then I would post to four of them a little sunshine from Australia, well I picked four from my fav.list at random and you were one, the only thing is I cannot email you to ask.

If you do not mind and you will not offend me if you say no. but would you email me with your slow snail address I have a little summer sunshine to send your way. If you would rather not that is fine just let me know. I have posted the other three and wanted you to have the forth. on my blog is my email address button please contact me that way and let me know if thats all right with you.

I look forward to hearing from you. I admire your renovation skills well done to you both.

Please know I am an honest normal lady who just has a little parcel here to send thats all.

have a nice day.

I am amazed at your energy, Tea! We are also renovating, and it goes on and on, with an old house!

And my dogs are always confused when the upheaval starts once again...they can't see the purpose of the whole thing! They love my grungy, dog friendly carpet! lol

Oh yes Tea, we too have ripped up carpets in favour of wood floors! and as a pet owner, they are much easier! muddy footprints just wipe off,but yes we have to have rugs down for our dog(Teddy)Good luck!

Hope you had a good reunion with your friend. How did you get in contact again if you haven't seen some of them for 25 years? And what colour was your hair?

ellee.....Had a wonderful time. One of the girl`s I see all the time, but the one that put it together I only see about once a year. The others we don`t see because they live farther away. My hair was and is still copper red :) LOL

Yup, we got the same mess. Sleet, freezing rain, and lots of snow. I keep telling myself, spring is just around the corner. But self keeps looking out the window, and it seems so far away!

What is this fixation women have with renovation? We have a constant renovator next door and the drilling in the wall and the saw go all day, every day and drive us out of our tree. Surely there can't be any section of the wall left to drill.

It looks like you've been busy - O bet it'll be perfect when it's done!

Have a good and productive week! :)

How much do you want for that nice tablecloth???
Where is Handy Andy when you need him?

I thought I'd already commented on this post, but I guess I hadn't! You have a lot of work ahead of you but it will look wonderful once you are done. I really like the flooring you selected.

Fabric or runner? I agree with an earlier comment ... clip Elvis' nails and recover your furniture!

I like to watch BBC Canada as well. Do you ever watch the show Escape to the Country? You get to see some lovely homes on that show. At least I think they are lovely, and I suspect you would too!

Have fun with your flooring job, and I'm really looking forward to the "after" pictures!

Hi Tea!
I can hardly wait to see your finished floor. That's one of the goals for this weekend is lay a new floor down in the soon to be art room.
The weather has been gastly. 50 mph wind gusts and bone chillin cold. It says 30 but feels like a 11. We're supposed to get snow but I hope not. I would just love a day of sunshine.
Hope you have a good weekend. Getting caught up on blogs.
Hugs.
