Lest We Forget.....

This day in Canada is Remembrance Day. A day amongst all our other busy days that we must pause to remember the heros and the loved ones who were lost fighting the satanic evil threatening to take over Europe and then possibly North America and who allowed us to still remain a free country.

Sadly there are not many left from this time, but we must keep their purpose alive and never forget.....

And we must pray for the men and women now sent on such a dangerous and perilous journey into horror by our new "Bush buddy" Prime Minister...

Canadian`s are supposed to be the peace keepers in all this mess Mr. Steven Harper!

From my understanding, the Canadian military, like the US is voluntary. It's pretty resonable to expect that if you sign up chances are good you will be expected to be involved in military action. The Veterans that we remember today fought and many died so that many of the people of the world, people like yourself don't have to get up in the morning and salute Hitler's modern day counterpart. Make no mistake we are fighting for the right to not have to be forced to bend down and pray in the direction of mecca, or be killed.

Sombraknight....You are right that enlisting is voluntary. But it still remains a fact that Canadian soldiers are known as the "peace keepers". I know a few people here that have brothers that went into the military. Many realize that fighting could occur, they have to be prepared for that but that is not the reason they join. They join as "peace keepers"
Our new Prime Minister has changed that it seems.

Tea, it wasn't the Conservatives and Stephen Harper who sent our troops to Afganistan in the first place, it was the Liberals.

It is my understanding that are there because we were asked, not because we decided on our own what was best for another country.

Whatever the reasons we are there, and whoever sent us, you are right that we need to remember them today, as we remember those who gave their lives in WWI, WWII, Korea, Bosnia, and everywhere else that men and woman have given their lives to protect our rights and freedoms that we value so much.

Tea, thank you for your posting. We must always remember the men and women that have served in our military and those that are serving now in Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes our soldiers are volunteers but they don’t have a choice where they are sent. As citizens of our countries, it is our patriotic duty to stand up to our leaders and demand that soldiers are put in harms way only as a last resort and only in war of necessity and not of choice. I believe America spoke last Tuesday and sent Washington that message.

You are absolutely right.. We spoke loud and clear! I have been SCREAMING since about 03 since there were no WMD. All three of my kids were active duty at that time. Both sons have been to Iraq a number of times. We in America are remembering our veterans today as you are remembering yours. I salute them all for all they have done for me. I was so glad to read your post! I hope we can start standing down soon. We need to focus more to Afganistan where the Taliban is growing strong once again.

Hi Tea, We too had Remembrance Day last weekend. I remembered the old guys who fought in all the wars and thanked them in my heart for saving me from being forced to share the same fate as they. I also spared a thought for the guys that are fighting now. Whether someone thinks its right or wrong the thing to remember is that they are doing a hard and dangerous job and doing it so well that they make you feel proud. My country too is a friend of the USA and on the whole is very pleased to be so and I personally hope we continue to support them for as long as it takes.
