The Hummingbird

We have seen a lot of hummingbirds in the back garden this summer, but every time we`ve went for the camera, they`ve flown off. But early the other morning, hubby was sitting outside drinking his coffee when this wee pretty bird came along to drink from it`s favorite flower, the bee balm. He was able to get some amazing snaps! I`ve left them all big so you can click on them. I won`t be posting for the rest of the week because after work, I`ll be preparing for our party.....getting music together, cleaning, praying it doesn`t rain etc etc. Hubby`s sisters are coming from Oshawa to stay over so I want to get the spare room nice for them. See you later :)

Hubby did good! Great hummer shots, especially #3 & 4. They are so clear.

You get a different kind of hummer than I do. It's interesting to see.

Hope you have fun getting ready for your party.

Wow - now I know why the bergamot has such amazingly-shaped flowers, though I'm not sure anything over here can utilise their long, tapering heads! I am amazed that you have hummingbirds, it's wonderful, so exotic. Well done to your hubby for being able to capture them :)

Love hummingbirds,
but surely they can't last long in Canada - and I didn't think they were big enough to migrate long distances.

Dear Tea,

Your hubby got some great shots! We used to see lots of hummingbirds when we went to the Minnesota lakes but I've only ever seen one here.

We have had a lot of bumblebirds this year. We have actually seen the male doing his mating dance...this funny swooping thing he does to show off to the gals!

Hummingbirds are amazing and mesmerizing creatures, aren't they? My folks have numerous hum-feeders around the house and it's always a thrill to watch them up close.

Love these wonderful shots! I also enjoy being reminded that hummingbird as a totem helps us to find sweetness and joy in life. They are also feisty and agile little warriors! I also just read that they represent transcending time--to hover in the moment and appreciate its sweetness. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Fabulous pictures!!!

Aren't they just the sweetest little birds?!

We have a couple that like the rose of sharon and the lantana in the hanging baskets.

Thanks for sharing your photos!

What beautiful pictures of the hummingbirds. We used to have a quince bush they loved and it was such fun watching them eat. Never got to get pictures like these though.

The hummers have been busy in our yard too! I wonder if it is the same one, flitting back and forth?

I made a hummingbird cake...have you ever had it? we are all posting on our hummingbirds!

Oh what I wouldn't give for a hummingbird.

Why are hummingbirds so camera shy? I've had to hide under a bedsheet (floral, not white) while sitting on a bar stool to get a shot of my birds.

Your hubby did a great job! I love your garden and it looks like the hummies do too!!
